Pittsburg, Kan.----Wingate University junior student-athlete
Vanisha Wilshire (Louisburg, N.C.) claimed her fourth All-American trophy Friday evening, taking third place in the women's high jump in the NCAA Division II indoor national championship meet at the
Robert W. Plaster Center. She established a new school record with her 1.74 mark (
NCAA indoor results).
"Vanisha had an outstanding day," Wingate head track and field coach
Travis LeFlore says. "She went through the first three bars, including a personal best, without a miss. This put her in contention to battle for the top spot. I'm extremely proud of her and the way she competed. She definitely knows how to compete in front of the bright lights."
Wilshire cleared 1.67 meters, 1.71 meters and the school-record 1.74 meters without a miss. She took three attempts at 1.77 meters, but could not clear the bar. Angelo State (Texas) senior
Kaitlin Lumpkins (Junction, Texas) is the NCAA Division II national champion with her 1.78 meter mark. Pittsburg State senior
Emilee Iverson (Grove, Okla.) was second at 1.77 meters.
Two Bulldogs will see action on the biggest D2 stage Saturday. Wingate junior
Isaiah Kyle (Morristown, Tenn.) will compete in the men's high jump at 4 p.m. EST Saturday. WU senior
Nate Patterson (Mauldin, S.C.) will participate in the men's triple jump at 7:15 p.m. EST Saturday.
