Wingate University junior outfielder Dodson McPherson (Graham, N.C.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference baseball Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. McPherson had a huge week for the Bulldogs, hitting .583 while driving in 12 runs in five games.
McPherson piled up 14 hits in the five games, scoring at least a run in each game. He had a double, triple, three homers and scored 10 times. McPherson started his week with a four-for-six game against West Virginia State, missing the cycle by a double while driving in four and scoring three runs. He went four-for-six in Wednesday’s win, driving in five and scoring four times, blasting his fourth grand slam of the year.
McPherson was five-for-eight with two runs scored in Wingate’ first two games at Lincoln Memorial. His biggest hit of the week came in his final at bat Sunday against LMU. With two outs in the final inning, the Bulldogs trailed by one with two runners on. He connected on a three-run homer to give Wingate a 7-5 victory.
McPherson ranks fifth in the SAC with his .389 batting average. He is third with seven homers, while leading the way with 46 RBI, 100 total bases and four triples. McPherson is tied for the league lead with 61 hits, is second with 40 runs scored, while also ranking in the top five in on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
