Wingate University freshman Candra Mathis (Harrisburg, N.C.) won the long jump (5.2 meters) and the triple jump (11.38 meters) Saturday, April 2 at the Terrier Relays in Spartanburg, S.C. Thanks to the efforts of Mathis and her teammates, the Bulldogs finished second in the meet. Wingate accumulated 77.3 points, second only to NCAA Division II rival Limestone College’s 77.5 points.
 
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released their first weekly rankings this week; the Wingate women’s track & field team is ranked sixth in the Southeast Region top 10. Mathis is ranked first in the region in the triple jump and second in the long jump.
