Senior left-hander Chris Nelson picked up two wins in four days as the Bulldogs won their first SAC Tournament since 1998. Nelson went 13 innings in the two games, allowing only one earned run while picking up tournament MVP honors.

Nelson got the win in Wingate's opening victory over Carson-Newman, allowing one run in eight innings of work. He was back on the mound to start the championship game against Catawba on just two days rest. He allowed one hit in five innings of work, leading the 'Dogs to a 7-1 win.
