Wingate sophomore guard Janitsha Williams (Statesville, N.C.) averaged 15.0 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game as the Bulldogs split two games in the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic, hosted by defending national champion Clayton State (Ga.) University. Williams netted a season-high 21 points in a 70-67 victory over Lander University Thursday. She hit three-of-four three-point field goals, helping the Bulldogs avenge a 2011 NCAA Division II Southeast Region tournament loss.
The 2011 All-SAC freshman team member had nine points in tough 76-60 loss to the host CSU Lakers Friday. For the week, she hit 52.9 percent from the field and nailed eight-of-eight free throws. In addition, Williams converted four-of-six three-point field goals. On the season, the Statesville High School product is averaging 12.3 points per game (third on the team). She leads the Bulldogs in three-point field goals made. Williams has hit 21 points in two Wingate victories this season (Lander, UNC Pembroke).
