Bulldog sophomore Valerie Dembny (Bremen, Germany) notched three top-three placements at the 2012 Winter College Invitational in Daytona Beach. An honorable mention NCAA Division II All-American last year, Dembny finished second in the 200 Individual Medley (2:15.33). She collected bronze medals in the 100 Backstroke (1:01.34) and the 100 Butterfly (1:02.29).
On the NCAA Division II charts, Dembny has four top 25 swims this year. She is fourth in the 400 Individual Medley (2:05.36) and eighth in the 100 Backstroke (56.72). In addition, Dembny is 13th in the 200 Backstroke (2:05.13) and 25th in the 100 Butterfly (57.38). In 2011, Dembny earned NCAA Division II honorable mention All-American honors in the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay.
The nationally-ranked Wingate teams host Lenoir-Rhyne University Saturday, Jan. 21 for Senior Day. The first event at the Wingate University Natatorium begins at 11 a.m. The Bulldogs will honor their senior class in a mid-meet ceremony the same day.
