Wingate sophomore guard Nikki Burton averaged 14.0 points per game, 4.0 steals per game and 3.0 rebounds per game as the Bulldogs won twice last week. She hit a team-high 22 points in an 87-66 home victory over Mars Hill Saturday. Thanks to the efforts of Burton and her teammates, the Wingate bench outscored the Mars Hill reserves 64-12. Burton scored six points in a hard-fought 63-57 road win at Lenoir-Rhyne Wednesday.
On the season, Burton leads the Bulldogs in scoring (14.8 points per game), field goal percentage (48.2 percent), steals (51) and blocked shots (17). She has been Wingate’s leading scorer in five games this season. Burton recorded a season-high 25 points in her Bulldog debut, an 84-59 victory over Winston-Salem State on Nov. 18.
