Wingate University senior guard Jaime Vaughn (Tallahassee, Fla.) has been named this week’s South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week. The two-time All-SAC selection led the Bulldogs to a pair of league victories, as Wingate improved to 6-2 in the conference.
Vaughn averaged 20.5 points per game as the ‘Dogs knocked off Newberry and Brevard. Wingate has now won seven of its last eight contests, and sits alone in third place in the league standings. Vaughn shot 55.6 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from beyond the arc on the week.
Vaughn started his week by scoring a season-high 29 points in Wingate’s convincing 96-64 victory over Newberry. He scored 22 points in the first half. Vaughn went 10-of-15 from the field and six-of-seven from three-point range in the contest. He scored 12 points in the 61-57 win at Brevard Saturday, as the Bulldogs overcame a 17-point halftime deficit. Vaughn added three assists and two steals on the afternoon.
Vaughn leads the Bulldogs with 15.6 points per game this season. He is third on the team with 21 three-pointers on the season, while shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc. Vaughn is also shooting 80 percent from the free throw line and is second on the team with 2.2 assists per contest. He has scored in double figures in 11 of 13 games this year, while scoring over 15 points seven times.
