Wingate senior guard Jaime Vaughn averaged a team-best 16.3 points per game last week as the Bulldogs won the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament with two victories over nationally-ranked opponents. Wingate receives an automatic qualification to the NCAA Division II tournament.

On Sunday, Vaughn had 22 points as Wingate defeated number 16 Anderson (S.C.) 66-59. On Saturday, he contributed 10 markers to a 64-60 triumph over number 17 Lincoln Memorial. Vaughn and the Bulldogs opened SAC tournament play with a 58-51 home victory over Carson-Newman. Vaughn topped the Wingate charts with 17 points against C-N.

For his efforts, Vaughn was named to the All-SAC tournament team. In addition to his 16.3 points per game, Vaughn led the Bulldogs in assists (11), three-pointers (three), free throws (18) and free throw percentage (.857) during the three-game week.

This season, Vaughn leads Wingate in scoring (15.0) and is second on the team charts in assists (76), three-pointers (38) and free throw percentage (82.8 percent). Vaughn has scored 20+ points seven times this season. Wingate is 6-1 this year when Vaughn tops the 20-point barrier. He tallied a season-high 29 in a home win over Newberry (1/18/12). Vaughn joined Wingate’s 1000-point club at Lincoln Memorial (11/30/11).
