Wingate University senior outfielder Casey Allison (Horse Shoe, N.C.) earned South Atlantic Conference baseball Player of the Week honors for his efforts last week. Allison’s huge week led the Bulldogs to a 5-0 record, which included Wingate’s second consecutive SAC sweep at Carson-Newman.
Allison hit .591 in the five games, piling up 13 hits in 22 at bats. He had three homers and two doubles, driving in 10 runs while scoring nine times. Allison raised his batting average to over .300 for the first time since early February, while also stealing four bases on the week.
Allison’s week started with a two-hit, three-RBI performance in Wingate’s 12-6 win over Winston-Salem State. He had three hits including a homer in the 12-11 win over Limestone, driving in four while also scoring three, including the game-winning run in the 11th. Allison started the weekend series at Carson-Newman with two homers, a double, three RBI and three runs scored in the 12-4 victory. He went two-for-four with a double and run scored in the 8-4 victory Saturday evening. Allison capped his week with a three-for-four effort at Carson-Newman, scoring twice in the 10-5 victory.
Allison is having a big senior season for the Bulldogs, hitting .309 while leading the team and ranking second in the SAC with 38 RBI. Allison is fourth in the league with nine homers and 84 total bases, seventh with 12 doubles and eighth with a .600 slugging percentage. He leads the team with 10 multi-RBI games, which includes a team-best eight RBI at Lenoir-Rhyne earlier this year. Allison is in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak, while he has reached base safely a team-best 27 consecutive contests.
