Wingate University sophomore Olivia Poole (Boca Raton, Fla.) earned South Atlantic Conference women’s tennis Player of the Week honors for her efforts last week. She won the award for the first time this season and the second time in her career.
Poole went 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles play last week, leading Wingate to victories over North Georgia and Lincoln Memorial. Poole started her week with a 6-0, 6-0 win in number three singles against North Georgia, while teaming with freshman Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) for a 9-7 win in number two doubles. She won 6-4, 6-3 in number three singles against LMU Saturday. Poole and Williams added an 8-0 win in number two doubles against the Railsplitters.
Poole and the defending SAC champion Bulldogs have started the 2012 season in a big way. Wingate is 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The ‘Dogs have won 13 consecutive SAC matches; they are ranked 40th in the most recent ITA national poll. Poole is 7-3 overall in singles play this year, while holding a 10-1 mark in doubles play.
