For the second time this season, Wingate University freshman right-hander Miranda Paul (Virginia Beach, Va.) was named the South Atlantic Conference softball Pitcher of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday. Paul tossed four complete games for the Bulldogs last week, all ending in a Wingate victory.
The Bulldogs went 4-0 on the week to improve to 25-19 overall and 7-7 in the South Atlantic Conference. Paul and Wingate took two games from Pfeiffer on Wednesday. In game one, Paul held the Falcons scoreless through six innings as Wingate won 6-3. The Bulldogs rallied to win game two as Paul shut down Pfeiffer in the final four innings. She struck out four on the day without issuing a walk. Paul now has four wins over the Falcons this year.
In game one on Saturday against conference leader Tusculum, Paul once again went the distance for the win, allowing three earned runs with five strikeouts and only one walk. In the nightcap, she struck out three more Pioneers as the Bulldogs completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory.
Paul is 21-17 overall on the year with a 2.65 ERA. She is first in the SAC in appearances, second in strikeouts and innings pitched, while ranking fourth in wins. Paul has registered 139 strikeouts against only 30 walks this season.
