Wingate University junior right-side hitter Anna Hilton (Hickory, N.C.) was named the South Atlantic Conference volleyball Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Hilton earned the honor for the first time this year and the fourth time in her career.
Hilton had a pair of double-doubles while hitting an impressive .415 on the week, leading the Bulldogs to a pair of SAC road wins. She had 15 kills and 13 digs in the win at Newberry, hitting .438 while adding five blocks and two aces. She followed with a 10-kill, 12-dig performance at Anderson. The 2011 honorable mention All-American averaged 3.57 kills and 3.57 digs per set on the week.
Hilton leads the SAC with a .339 hitting percentage, while ranking seventh in the league with 3.06 kills per set. She has been even better in league play, hitting .351 with 3.14 kills per set and 3.00 digs per set. Hilton has registered four double-doubles in the last five Wingate matches.
The Bulldogs are 13-2 overall and 4-2 in the SAC. Wingate returns to action Tuesday, traveling to Catawba for a 7 p.m. start. The Bulldogs host Lincoln Memorial Friday at 7 p.m., then host the Eagles of Carson-Newman Saturday at 2 p.m.
