Wingate junior Katie Pheil (Ocala, Fla.) helped the Bulldog women’s swimming team compile a 2-1 record in a quad meet at the University of South Carolina Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated NCAA Division I the College of Charleston and Bluegrass Mountain Conference opponent Queens (N.C.).
On Saturday, Pheil won the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:53.70. The Daytona State College transfer had a big Saturday, taking third in the 100 Backstroke (57.92) and swimming the anchor leg on Wingate’s fourth-place 400 Freestyle Relay team (3:34.74).
On Friday, Pheil was third in the 200 Backstroke (2:03.27), setting a new WU school record in the process. In addition, she swam the anchor leg in the 400 Medley Relay (3:56.95). Pheil earns Wingate’s Athlete of the Week award for the second consecutive week.
