Wingate junior Katie Pheil (Ocala, Fla.) helped Wingate win the 2013 Bluegrass Mountain Conference swimming meet Saturday in Charlotte. The 15th annual BMC championship meet was held at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center (MCAC) pool in downtown Charlotte. Pheil was involved in 198 points for the triumphant Bulldogs.
In the 200 Backstroke, Pheil won the event with a time of 1:57.38. Pheil’s time was an NCAA Division II “A” cut time, in addition to establishing meet, conference and school records. Pheil swam a leg on two victorious relay teams: the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:34.72) and the 400 Medley Relay (3:46.47). Both the 200 Free Relay and the 400 Medley Relay teams set school, conference open and conference meet records.
Pheil’s BMC resume includes a second-place finish in the 100 Backstroke (55.81) and the 200 Freestyle (1:50.26). She was a member of two third-place relay quartets: the 800 Freestyle Relay (7:33.22) and the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:29.22). Next on Pheil’s agenda is the NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships in Birmingham, Ala. March 6-9.
