Hayley Whitley had a big weekend for the Bulldogs, helping Wingate earn a 14-0 win over Queens, while also helping the 'Dogs register a tie at #11 Armstrong Atlantic.
Whitley hit a solo homer in the sixth inning against Armstrong, tying the game at two. Her second homer of the season helped the Bulldogs push the game to extra innings. Whitley added a key hit in the top of the eighth, helping Wingate take a 5-2 lead. Due to rain with one out in the bottom of the eighth the inning was not completed, meaning the game would end in a 2-2 tie. On Sunday, Whitley drove in a career-high four runs, going two-for-two while also scoring a run as the Bulldogs won 14-0 against Queens.
Whitley is hitting .279 on the year, with two homers, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored. The 2013 Wingate University National Girls and Women in Sport Day Award winner, Whitley is also an award-winning musician. Her first album, titled "My Heart" is scheduled to be released Tuesday, Feb. 26.
