Wingate University senior Brian Denton (Wendell, N.C.) won the individual title at the J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate, while finishing second at the UNCP/Campbell Oil Classic. Denton led the Bulldogs to a second place finish at both events.
After shooting 74 in Monday's opening round in tough conditions at Olde Sycamore, Denton fired a two-under par 70 to take the title by three shots.
Denton opened his second tournament of the week with a three-under par 69 at River Landing. He fired 74 in the second round, while also carding a 74 in the final round to finish second on the final leaderboard.
In 17 rounds this season, Denton has a stroke average of 73.3. He has six rounds of par or better, while registering three top-five finishes. Denton has three rounds in the 60's this season. He shot 68 at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, while also carding a 69 at the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate.
