Wingate University Athletics

The Wingate University women’s swimming teams made a huge early-season statement Friday and Saturday, sweeping a quad meet with three Blue Grass Mountain Conference foes at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center (MCAC) pool in downtown Charlotte. Wingate defeated Catawba, Rollins and Washington and Lee on both the men’s and women’s charts.

The Wingate women utilized their depth to take three victories over Catawba, Rollins and W&L. Wingate sophomore Malin Kersmark (Malin-Bjarred, Sweden) participated in three victories for the Bulldogs. Individually, Kersmark won the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:10.17.

 
Kersmark joined seniors Rebecca Gerbert and Samantha Vencl and junior Nicole Moody to take the checkered flag in the 2000 Freestyle Relay with a victorious time of 1:41.88. In the final event of the weekend, Kersmark helped the Bulldogs win the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:42.40. Vencl, junior Cheryl Vaccaro and freshman Matilda Larsson joined Kersmark on the 400 Freestyle Relay quartet.
