Junior forwar Peron Da Silva was named the South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer Player of the Week for his performance in Wingate's two league victories last week.
Da Silva had three goals and an assist last week, leading the Bulldogs to a pair of SAC victories. He started his week with two goals and an assist in Wingate's 4-2 win at Coker, netting the game-winner against the Cobras. Da Silva scored the first and third goal of the contest, adding an assist on the fourth goal. He also scored a goal in Wingate's 3-0 victory over Brevard on Saturday as Wingate moved to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the SAC.
Da Silva ranks sixth in the league with seven goals and seventh with 16 points. The Bulldogs are 5-0 this season when Da Silva scores a goal. He has 20 goals and six assists in his career.
The Bulldogs are currently alone in second place in the SAC standings with their 5-2 league mark. Wingate has a pair of road games this week, traveling to Lander Wednesday to take on the third-ranked Bearcats at 7 p.m. Wingate and Lander met twice last year, with the Bulldogs prevailing in both meetings including a 2-1 victory in the NCAA Southeast Regional semifinals. Wingate travels to Newberry Saturday for a 4 p.m. start. The Bulldogs return home next Wednesday, Oct. 23, hosting first-place Queens at 7:30 p.m.
