Wingate University senior Marko Blazevski (Skopje, Macedonia) won three individual events and finished second in the 800 Freestyle Relay to help the number five Bulldogs win the 2014Bluegrass Mountain Conference championship meet Sunday night at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center (MCAC) pool in downtown Charlotte. Wingate has won seven consecutive BMC crowns.
Blazevski started his final BMC meet by winning the 500 Freestyle for the second year in a row, touching first with a time of 4:28.27 Friday. The two-time Capital One Academic All-America® selection won the 400 Individual Medley for the third time in his illustrious career Saturday. Blazevski set a meet record in his signature event, taking the checkered flag with a time of 3:55.39. Interestingly enough, the previous meet record was established exactly six years previous by Wingate All-American Kyle Corcoran (Kent, Wash.) with his time of 3:56.21 (Feb. 15, 2008).
The 2012 London Olympian won the 200 Butterfly for the third consecutive year Sunday, leading a 1-2-5-8 WU finish which gave the Bulldogs the lead in the team standings for good. His gold medal 200 Fly time was 1:48.08. The number five Wingate men trailed by 56.5 points after day one and 27 points after day two; Wingate posted 1394.5 points to edge number three Queens University of Charlotte by 45 points on the team leader board.
