Wingate University senior forward Kayla Harris (Raleigh, N.C.) averaged a double-double last week as the Bulldogs clinched a share of the South Atlantic Conference regular season title. The Wakefield High School product averaged 15.5 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game as Wingate defeated Brevard 69-46 and Newberry 65-54.
On Saturday, Harris posted her SAC-best 13th double-double of the season (18 points, 12 rebounds) to lead the Bulldogs to the title-clinching road victory at Brevard. The Bulldogs have won 11 SAC regular season crowns and six Food Lion SAC tournament championships. On Wednesday, Harris recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds in Wingate’s home-court victory over Newberry.
Harris leads Wingate in scoring (16.8 points per game), rebounding (9.3 rebounds per game) and field goal percentage (50.3). On the SAC statistical charts, she is third in rebounding, fourth in field goal percentage and fifth in scoring. Harris has hit 20 or more points eight times, with seven of those performances coming against league opponents. Wingate is 7-1 overall when Harris hits 20-plus points. In 22 SAC games, Harris averages 17.8 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game.
