Wingate freshman Sofia Petrenko (Arkhangelsk, Russia) earned six All-American awards (three individual, three relay) during the 2014 NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships at the SPIRE Institute. On the way, she set four school records (two individual, two relay).
In her first event on the NCAA stage, Petrenko earned All-American honors in the 200 Individual Medley. She finished fourth with a time of 2:01.72. In the 200 IM morning preliminaries, Petrenko set a new school record with her time of 2:01.67. In three individual events, she finish third twice (200 Freestyle and 200 Butterfly) and fourth once (200 Individual Medley).
In addition to her 200 IM record, she set school records in the 100 Freestyle (50.75), the 400 Medley Relay (3:44.03) and the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:23.59). She won the 100 Freestyle consolation final. Petrenko and three teammates finished fourth in the 400 Medley Relay (3:44.03), sixth in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:23.59) and eighth in the 800 Freestyle Relay (7:32.01).
