Wingate University junior right-side hitter Shelly Stumpff (Iowa City, Iowa) was named the SAC Player of the Week on Tuesday, earning the honor for the second time in her career.
Stumpff helped lead the ninth-ranked Bulldogs to a pair of impressive SAC road wins. Wingate won 3-1 at LMU and 3-0 at Carson-Newman to push its SAC winning streak to 45. The Bulldogs have won 10 straight matches this season and are the only remaining SAC school without a conference loss, sitting atop the league standings at 15-1 overall and 8-0 in the SAC.
Stumpff averaged 3.14 kills and 4.57 digs per set in the two wins, adding five blocks and four aces. She registered a pair of double-doubles on the weekend. Stumpff started her week with 11 kills and 16 digs at LMU, adding four blocks and two aces. The 2012 SAC and Region Freshman of the Year hit .417 in Saturday's sweep over Carson-Newman, compiling 11 kills and 16 digs as the 'Dogs handed the Eagles their first league loss of the season.
Stumpff ranks fourth in the SAC with 3.22 kills per set, leading the league with 0.57 aces per set. She ranks third on the team with 2.57 digs per set while adding 23 blocks on the season.
