Wingate University sophomore All-American Sofia Petrenko won two individual events and helped the number three Bulldogs win two relays at the SCAD-Savannah College Invitational Thursday through Saturday. Individually, Petrenko won the 200 Butterfly and the 200 Individual Medley. In the 200 Fly preliminaries, she set a SCAD Invite record time of 2:00.09. She missed a SCAD Invite record in the 200 IM by 0.03 seconds.
All total, Petrenko was a part of three SCAD Invitational records during a busy weekend. She swam the anchor leg as Wingate set a new meet record in the 400 Medley Relay (3:43.74). Additionally, Petrenko swam the first leg as the Bulldogs set another new meet mark in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:26.49). Petrenko and three teammates were second in the 200 Medley Relay (1:46.26). Thanks to the efforts of Petrenko and her teammates, Wingate won the 10th annual SCAD-Savannah College Invitational for the sixth year in a row (and the eighth time in the last nine years).
On the NCAA charts, Petrenko has five times in the Division II top 10. She has the division’s best time in the 200 Freestyle (1:48.77). Petrenko is second on the NCAA charts in the 200 Butterfly, the 200 Individual Medley and the 400 Individual Medley with her SCAD Invitational times.
