Junior right-hander Stacey Houser (Mooresville, N.C.) picked up a win and a save Sunday afternoon as the 25th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs swept a doubleheader at eighth-ranked Armstrong State in the season opener.
Houser tossed seven shutout innings on the afternoon as Wingate picked up a 9-0 win in game one and a 6-3 victory in game two. The All-SAC and All-Region performer from 2014 tossed a complete game shutout in the opener, allowing eight singles while striking out one and walking three to notch her 51st career win in the 9-0 six-inning victory. Houser came on in relief in the seventh inning of game two, tossing a shutout inning to notch her first career save.
Houser posted a 26-10 record with a 1.77 ERA during her sophomore season, piling up 29 complete games and 10 shutouts on the year She had 121 strikeouts in 229 2/3 innings while holding opponents to a .213 batting average. Houser led the SAC in wins, shutouts and innings pitched, ranking second in complete games, fifth in strikeouts and sixth in ERA.
