Wingate University senior shortstop Alexis Burrell (Chesapeake, Va.) was named the SAC Player of the Week on Tuesday. The preseason All-SAC selection went six-for-13 last week with two homers, six RBI and three runs scored to help lead the 25th-ranked Bulldogs to three more wins.
Burrell had a homer in game one of the Mount Olive doubleheader, while connecting on a grand slam to help Wingate rally for a 10-8 win in game two, erasing a five-run deficit. Burrell drove in the only run in Saturday's 1-0 win against ninth-ranked North Georgia, going two-for-three on the day as Wingate notched is third win over a top-10 opponent this year.
Burrell is hitting .400 on the season, leading the SAC with 5 homers and 19 RBI. She ranks fourth in the league with an .886 slugging percentage, while leading the conference with 31 total bases. Burrell has 26 homers during her Wingate career.
