Wingate University senior outfielder Thomas Spitz (West Chester, Pa.) earned SAC Player of the Week honors on Tuesday. He led a Wingate offense that piled up 45 runs in a three-game sweep at Coker over the weekend, going seven-for-14 with a triple, two homers, eight RBI and seven runs scored.
Spitz started his week by missing out on the cycle by a double, collecting a triple, homer, four RBI and two runs scored. He had a homer and two RBI in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, while notching a pair of doubles, two RBI and three runs scored in the final game of the weekend.
Spitz is second in the SAC with a .564 batting average, trailing only teammate Shane Billings, who is hitting .565. Spitz leads the league with five homers, 17 RBI, two triples, a .600 on-base percentage, 1.128 slugging percentage, 19 runs and 44 total bases.
