In the last two weeks, Wingate graduate student Benedict Gebhardt (Wiesbaden, Germany) has finished first in two tournaments, giving him four tournament triumphs in six outings this season. On Feb. 24, Gebhardt tied for first place in the Armstrong Pirate Invitational at Savannah Quarters Country Club, helping Wingate finish second in the 15-team field.
Gebhardt lost on the first hole of the medalist play-off to Lander sophomore Michal Pospisil, who made a birdie on the par-four first hole. Both Gebhardt and Pospisil shot a one-under-par 215 for the tournament. On the team leader board, the Bulldogs defeated eight ranked teams, including five in the top 10.
On Feb. 17, Gebhardt earned medalist honors in a play-off at the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate. Wingate and Lincoln Memorial co-hosted the third annual event at the Country Club of Orange Park. Gebhardt defeated West Georgia sophomore Barrett Waters on the first play-off hole, the par-four, 404-yard number one. Both players concluded the 54-hole tourney at three-over-par 219. Wingate finished fifth in the 11-team field.
