Sophomore infielder Shane Billings (Kernersville, N.C.) had three multi-hit games over the weekend, leading the Bulldogs to a sweep over Brevard as Wingate moved into first place in the SAC standings at 9-3 in league play.
Billings went six-for-11, hitting .545 with two RBI and five runs scored while also drawing three walks and stealing three bases. He started his week with by going two-for-two with two walks Friday, scoring all three of Wingate’s run while adding a double. Billings was two-for-five with a double and two runs scored in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, while capping his week with two hits and two RBI in the final game of the series as the ‘Dogs erased a 5-0 deficit to win 6-5.
Billings is leading the SAC with a .514 batting average, 38 hits and 30 runs. He leads the nation in hits while ranking second in runs. Billings also ranks fifth in the league with six stolen bases in six attempts. He has multiple hits in 13 of Wingate’s first 15 games this year.
