All-American outfielder Shane Billings (Kernersville, N.C.) was named the SAC Player of the Week Tuesday morning. Billings hit .600 in Wingate's three-game sweep over Lenoir-Rhyne, helping the Bulldogs move into a tie for third in the SAC standings. He was six-for-10 with a double, homer, three RBI and three runs scored.
Billings started the weekend by going two-for-three in Friday night's 7-3 victory, while also reaching base via walk and scoring a run. He started the first game of Saturday's doubleheader with a solo homer in the bottom of the first, while adding a two-run double later in the game as the 'Dogs prevailed 9-4. He capped his week with a one-for-three effort in the 3-2 victory to wrap up the sweep.
A first team All-American in 2015, Billings leads the SAC in batting average (.453), hits (81), runs (60) and stolen bases (24). He ranks second in the conference in on-base percentage (.517), third in total bases (118), seventh in slugging percentage (.659) and eighth in doubles (14). Billings leads the nation in hits, ranking third in runs, fifth in triples, 11th in batting average, 14th in total bases and 18th in stolen bases.
