Wingate University senior All-American Abby Saehler (Iowa City, Iowa) was named the MVP of the 2016 SAC Tournament, leading Wingate to its 10th tournament championship in the last 11 years.
Saehler had a tournament-best 47 kills in Wingate's three victories, ranking sixth in the tournament with a .360 hitting percentage. She helped the Bulldogs lead the tournament in kills and hitting percentage. Saehler hit .353 with 16 kills in the quarterfinal win over Tusculum, while collecting 16 kills and 11 digs in the semifinal victory against Queens. Saehler piled up 15 kills, 11 digs and three blocks in the sweep over LMU in the title match, hitting .452.
Saehler earned All-SAC honors for the third consecutive year, earning first team honor while ranking third in the conference in kills and sixth in hitting percentage. The Bulldogs are in the NCAA Tournament for the 12th consecutive year, opening tournament play next Friday against Queens.
