Wingate University senior outside hitter Katie Bludau was named the SAC volleyball Player of the Week Wednesday afternoon, while also being named the MVP at the Queens Fall Volleyball Invitational, which was held last weekend.
Bludau had a huge weekend for the 11-time defending SAC champion Bulldogs, piling up 56 kills in four Wingate victories. The preseason All-SAC selection averaged 4.31 kills per set on the weekend with an impressive .433 hitting percentage. The senior needed just 104 swings for her 56 kills, while adding 16 digs, six blocks and four aces on the week.
Bludau started her senior season by hitting .545 with 14 kills in the sweep over Francis Marion. She tied a career high with 17 kills in the 3-1 win over Augusta, adding nine digs and four aces while hitting .469. Bludau hit .375 with 16 kills and three blocks in the sweep over Shorter. She capped her week with nine kills in 18 swings in the sweep over Winston-Salem State.
Bludau has 763 kills during her Wingate career. She is the league leader with 4.31 kills per set this season, while also leading the SAC with 69 total kills. She ranks fifth in the conference with her .407 hitting percentage.
