Wingate University sophomore Diana McDonald (Kingston, Ontario) earned medalist honors on the first play-off hole as the Bulldogs won their first team title of the 2017-18 season, bringing home the hardware in the 2017 Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, hosted by Lincoln Memorial and Lenoir-Rhyne. The Bulldogs (611) defeated South Atlantic Conference foes Tusculum (612) and Lenoir-Rhyne (612) by one stroke.
After 36 holes, McDonald and Lenoir-Rhyne junior All-American Abbey Hartsell were tied at three-over-par 147. The two student-athletes moved to the par four, 362-yard hole number one for the play-off. Unfazed by a wayward tee shot, McDonald recovered from the right rough with a seven iron to seven feet from the hole. She hit the uphill putt into the center of the cup for the victory.
McDonald made five pars, two birdies and two bogeys on the aforementioned back nine to finish with a 74 Tuesday. McDonald had a 73 Monday.
