Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University sophomore forward
Kelly Adams (Matthews, N.C.) scored two goals to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-0 South Atlantic Conference victory over Mars Hill College Saturday night at the WU Soccer Complex.
With the victory, Wingate improves to 9-1-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the SAC. Mars Hill slips to 1-12 overall and 0-5 in the SAC. The Bulldogs are 5-0-2 overall on their current home stand.
Adams scored once in each half for the hosts. In the first frame, she tallied from 25 yards out in the 27th minute. After intermission, Adams fired a bullet from the top of the box to give the Bulldogs insurance at the 60-minute mark.
Mars Hill had a golden opportunity in the second half, but sophomore defender Abbie Hoard (Kalamazoo, Mich.) missed a penalty kick high and wide. Hoard’s miss was one of only three shots on goal for the Lions.
Wingate dominated the statistics sheet, as the Bulldogs outshot the Lions 22-4. Wingate held a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. Eight Bulldogs took a shot on goal, with Adams topping the charts with three tries.

Miriam Boucher (Calgary, Alberta) picked up the shutout. She went the distance, recording three saves. The Wingate defense has nine shutouts this season. Mars Hill freshman goalkeeper Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Va.) also played 90 minutes. Parker allowed two goals and recorded 10 saves.
Both teams step out of the SAC fray for their next contests. Wingate hosts Chowan University Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. Mars Hill continues its road swing, venturing to Due West, S.C. to battle Erskine College Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
