Bulldogs move to 4-0 with a pair of Saturday sweeps

Hickory, N.C.----The Wingate University volleyball team picked up 3-0 wins over Elizabeth City State and Coker College Saturday afternoon on day two of the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational. The Bulldogs defeated ECSU by scores of 25-12, 25-19, 25-16 while topping Coker 25-4, 25-10 and 25-20 to improve to 4-0 on the young season.

In the ECSU match, sophomore outside hitter Janice Ehorn (Orange, Conn.) led the way with 11 kills while freshman outside hitter Katie Handy (Palos Verdes, Calif.) added nine kills for the Bulldogs.

Junior outside hitter Lauren Billo (Orland Park, Ill.) racked up 12 kills in the Coker victory. Junior middle blocker StoStormi Gale (Richmond, Texas) added eight kills for the Bulldogs, who have now won 68 of its last 72 matches dating back to the beginning of the 2007 season.

The Bulldogs return to action Friday when they host the Wingate Classic. Wingate plays Saint Augustine’s Friday at 5 p.m., then take on Anderson at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Wingate plays Anderson at 1 p.m. and Saint Augustine’s at 3 p.m.
