Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs defeated Anderson University (S.C.) 3-0 Saturday afternoon on day two of the Wingate Classic in Cuddy Arena. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-13 as they move to 7-0 on the year. Anderson falls to 5-2.

Adria Mullaney (Tampa, Fla.) added eight kills and nine digs for the Trojans while sophomore setter
Lindsay Doggett (Jacksonville, Ala.) had 26 assists.
The Bulldogs used a 6-0 run in the first set to turn a four point lead into a 17-7 advantage. Gale sparked the spurt with four aces while junior outside hitter
Lauren Billo (Orland Park, Ill.) added a kill. The Trojans cut it to seven on consecutive Wingate attack errors. An ace from senior defensive specialist
Chelsea Cancelliere (Richboro, Pa.) gave the Bulldogs a 21-12 lead. Wingate finished off the set on an Anderson attack error.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 19-6 lead in the second set, capped by kills from Willis and Gale. Consecutive aces from freshman libero
Megan Murray (Lakeland, Fla.) to go along with a Lancaster kill trimmed the lead to six at 21-15. A block from Gale and kill from sophomore outside hitter
Janice Ehorn (Orange, Conn.) pushed the lead back to eight. Wingate again finished the set on a Trojan error.
A kill from O’Brien put Wingate on top 15-7 in the third set. Back-to-back kills from Gale gave the Bulldogs a 22-11 lead. Willis followed with a kill while Billo finished off the match with a kill.
Wingate hit .378 for the match, racking up 28 kills against only seven errors in 82 attacks. Anderson had 28 kills compared to 21 errors in 88 attacks to hit .080 for the match. The Bulldogs racked up 10 aces, led by Gale. Wingate will take on Saint Augustine’s at 3 p.m. in the finale of the 2009 Wingate Classic.
