Fabricio Barancoski (Sao Paulo, Brazil) each scored a pair of goals to lead the Bulldogs past the Tornados of Brevard College 6-1 in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action Saturday afternoon. The ‘Dogs have now won five straight, and improve to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the SAC. Brevard falls to 1-11-1 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
McKenna got the scoring started 8:29 into the game, netting his team-high ninth goal of the season on the feed from senior midfielder
Jack Vundum (Birmingham, England). Brevard tied the match five minutes later on a goal from Jami Uuttu.
Wingate answered six minutes later, taking the lead for good on McKenna’s second goal of the day and 10th of the season. Barancoski gave the ‘Dogs some insurance heading into halftime, scoring two goals in a four-minute stretch starting at the 36:51 mark.
Junior forward
Paulo Brunetto (Sao Paulo, Brazil) made it 5-1 with 3:45 remaining in the second half. Vundum capped the scoring on the afternoon with a penalty kick two minutes later.
Wingate outshot Brevard 25-11on the day, while holding a 13-7 advantage in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Joey Calandra (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) collected six saves to preserve the win for the Bulldogs.
Wingate returns to action Wednesday, hosting Belmont Abbey at 7 p.m. Brevard travels to Anderson Tuesday for a 2 p.m. start.
