Kelly Adams (Matthews, N.C.) had two goals and an assist to lead the Bulldogs to a 5-0 win over the Tornados of Brevard College in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action Saturday afternoon. Wingate improves to 6-1-3 overall and 4-0-1 in the SAC. The ‘Dogs have won four straight games, and have not lost a contest since the season opener. The Tornados fall to 3-8-1 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
Senior forward Kerstin Williams (Summerville, S.C.) got the scoring started 8:17 into the game, heading in a corner kick from Adams for a 1-0 lead. Adams scored on a free kick from just outside the box 21 minutes later to put Wingate on top 2-0 heading into intermission.
Adams scored on another free kick 5:51 into the second half to make it 3-0. The Bulldogs added to their lead eight minutes later, getting a goal from junior forward Hannah Holsclaw (Matthews, N.C.) to make it 4-0.
Freshman midfielder Izabella Miranda (Plymouth, Mass.) netted her fourth goal of the season with just under 20 minutes remaining in the game for the 5-0 final.
The ‘Dogs dominated all afternoon, outshooting Brevard 35-4 on the day, while holding a 16-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Bulldogs also held a 15-2 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Miriam Boucher (Calgary, Alberta) played the first 69:42 in goal for the ‘Dogs to help preserve the shutout. Freshman Carly Rives (Matthews, N.C.) played the final 20:18, collecting a pair of saves.
Wingate returns to action Tuesday, hosting Lees-McRae College at 7 p.m. Brevard travels to Anderson Tuesday for a 4 p.m. start.
