Bulldogs shutout Royals 2-0 Wednesday afternoon

BOX SCORE

Wingate, N.C.----
The Wingate University women’s soccer team scored twice in the first six minutes en route to a 2-0 shutout over the Royals of Queens University Wednesday afternoon at the WU Soccer Complex. The Bulldogs improve to 1-1 on the season, while Queens falls to 0-3.

Senior forward Jenni Barbett (Severn, Md.) got the scoring started for the Bulldogs, netting her first goal of the season 2:55 into the first half.

The Bulldogs added to the lead less than three minutes later, when senior defender Samantha Baldwin (Stallings, N.C.) found senior midfielder Julie Zielinski (Erie, Pa.), who netted her first goal of the year to make it 2-0.

That would be enough for the Wingate defense, who limited Queens to just two shots on the afternoon. The Bulldogs out-shot the Royals 14-2, including a 7-0 edge in shots on goal.

The Bulldogs return to action Friday, traveling to Chowan for a 4 p.m. start. Queens will host St. Andrews Saturday at 5 p.m.
