Chandler Murphy (Pawleys Island, S.C.) scored the only goal of the match, helping the Bulldogs earn a 1-0 South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer victory over Carson-Newman College Saturday afternoon at McCown Field.
Wingate (10-2 overall, 5-0 SAC) has won nine matches in a row. Carson-Newman falls to 3-8-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the SAC. The Bulldogs visit NCAA Division II number nine Lenoir-Rhyne University next Saturday (Oct. 22) at 5 p.m. The C-N Eagles host Pfeiffer University Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Early in the first half, Wingate senior defender
Stefanie Schroeder (Dallas, Texas) launched a diagonal cross that split the defense. As a result, Murphy had a one-on-one opportunity. Murphy finished strong, finding the back of the nets for her fifth goal of the season.
