Box Score Wingate, N.C.----The Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters scored twice in the final 36 minutes of action to notch a 2-0 win over the Bulldogs of Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action Monday afternoon. The Railsplitters improve to 7-5-3 overall and 6-2 in the SAC, while Wingate falls to 4-10 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
Wingate controlled the ball in the opening half, out-shooting LMU 13-4 while holding a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. The best chance for the Bulldogs came in the 11th minute, when a shot from sophomore defender
Gui Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil) hit the post.
Lincoln Memorial got on the board 9:39 into the second half, when junior forward
Mackenzie Wilde (Toronto, Ontario) netted his first goal of the year from a cross by sophomore midfielder
Mario Pinto (Uberlandia, Brazil). The Railsplitters added to their lead 16 minutes later, when junior midfielder
Chris Nash (Cuffley, England) beat his defender and scored his sixth goal of the season to make the tally 2-0.
The Bulldogs held a 19-11 advantage in shots on the afternoon, including an 11-4 edge in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Michael Watkins (Statesville, N.C.) racked up 11 saves on the afternoon for the Railsplitters. Senior
Peter Trask (Alpaus, N.Y.) had a pair of saves for Wingate.
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday, hosting Tusculum College at 7 p.m. LMU travels to Mars Hill Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. start.
