Miranda gives Wingate 1-0 win at Anderson

Anderson, S.C.----Wingate University senior forward Izabella Miranda (Plymouth, Mass.) scored with 8:44 remaining in regulation to give the Wingate University Bulldogs a 1-0 victory over Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action Saturday afternoon. The ‘Dogs improve to 13-3 overall and 8-1 in the SAC. Wingate will be the two seed in next week’s Food Lion SAC Tournament. Anderson falls to 9-9 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
 
The first half would go scoreless, with Wingate out-shooting the Trojans 11-2. The ‘Dogs held a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal in the opening half, while taking all five corner kicks in the first frame.
 
The Bulldogs finally got on the board in the final 10 minutes, as Miranda netted her second goal of the year, ripping one into the back of the net from 25 yards out to provide all the offense for the day.
 
The Bulldogs dominated all day, out-shooting Anderson 21-4, while holding a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. Junior Miriam Boucher (Calgary, Alberta) had a pair of saves to preserve the Wingate shutout. Kaitlyn Neipp had six saves for Anderson.
 
Wingate has now won 12 of its last 13 contests, notching shutouts in seven of nine SAC matches on the season. The Bulldogs outscored league opponents 26-5 on the year.
 
Wingate returns to action Wednesday, hosting the opening round of the Food Lion SAC tournament. Opponent and game time will be announced later.
