Peron Da Silva nets match-winner to lead Wingate past Brevard 2-1

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University freshman forward Peron Da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored the match-winner in the 58th minute to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-1 South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer victory over Brevard College Friday night at the WU Soccer Complex. Da Silva leads the Bulldogs with seven goals this season.
 
Wingate improves to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in the SAC. Brevard falls to 1-10-1 overall and 0-5 in the SAC. The Bulldogs host UNC Pembroke Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Brevard Tornados host SAC foe Anderson (S.C.) University the same day.
 
Brevard struck first, as freshman defender Garrett Stone (Oveido, Fla.) tallied his first career goal in the eighth minute. BC sophomore forward Tommi Rasinmaki (Tampere, Finland) and sophomore midfielder Patrick Urmson (Rauma, Finland) both received assists on the play. Urmson directed a Rasinmaki corner kick to Stone, who found the opposite corner of the nets.
 
Bulldog senior midfielder Felippe Imperatriz (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tied the contest in the 12th minute. The header was his second goal of the season. Wingate junior midfielder Zach Machuca (Fair Lawn, N.J.) picked up the assist on his corner kick.
 
Da Silva scored the match-winner on a perfect header to the upper-right corner. Senior midfielder Tom Poole (Birmingham, England) fed the ball to Da Silva on a corner kick. A Capital One Academic All-America® candidate, Poole leads the Bulldogs with three assists this season.
 
Wingate outshot Brevard 18-11. The Bulldogs held a slim 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. Wingate junior goalkeeper Julian Garcia (Flowery Branch, Ga.) earned the victory, notching six saves in 90 minutes of work. Brevard sophomore net minder Pauli Jussila (Valkeakoski, Finland) matched Garcia with six saves. Jussila also went the distance between the pipes.
