Men's Cross Country

Wingate men 10th, women 11th at Disney World Classic

Lake Buena Vista, Fla.----The Wingate University men's cross country team finished 10th in the Disney World Classic Saturday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The men's field included 24 teams and over 200 racers. The Wingate women finished 11th out of 28 teams in a field with 269 competitors.
 
Steve Hammond finished 21st out of 214 to lead the Wingate men, running the 8K course in 26:37. Andrew Smith finished with a time of 27:16 to finish 37th. James Lawson was 66th, finishing with a time of 27:57, while Hillary Maiyo posted a time of 28:15 to finish 76th. Binyam Ateka Belachew rounded out the top five for Wingate, finishing 93rd with a time of 28:35.
 
Keeley Wood finished 22nd in the 269-runner field with a time of 19:27. Brianna Stevens finished in 20:29 to place 66th. Taylor Varnadoe was 12 spots behind, finishing in 20:40. Tiana Barnes was 101st with a time of 21:04, while Melanie Wollenberg finished with a time of 21:35 to place 130th.
 
Both teams return to action Thursday, competing in the Pre-SAC Invitational meet at Wingate.
