Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University senior outside hitter
Janice Ehorn (Orange, Conn.) celebrated Senior Night in style, piling up a career-high 15 kills to lead the 14th-ranked Bulldogs past Anderson University 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action Friday night in Cuddy Arena. Wingate won by scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-17 to improve to 26-0 overall and 17-0 in the SAC. Anderson falls to 4-13 overall and 8-21 in the SAC.
The ‘Dogs win their 81st straight SAC match, while also notching their 49th consecutive regular season victory. The 26-0 start is the best in school history. The senior class improves to 123-6 overall in their career and 108-3 in regular season contests. The Bulldogs are one of only two remaining teams in Division I and Division II volleyball still unbeaten on the season.
Ehorn hit .400 on the night, committing only one error in 35 swings, while adding five digs and two aces. Freshman middle blocker
Lexi Potter (North Liberty, Iowa) contributed nine kills in 10 swings, hitting .800 in two sets of action. Freshman outside hitter
Susie Murach (Burke, Va.) had an efficient night, notching seven kills and a .500 hitting percentage in one set. Senior setter

Shannon Gillespie (Fishers, Ind.) racked up 10 of Anderson’s 23 kills on the night. Freshman setter

Alix Hooker (Plant City, Fla.) collected 12 digs for the Trojans.
A 4-0 run helped the ‘Dogs take a 12-5 lead in the opening set. Junior middle blocker

Hailey Pittman (Orlando, Fla.) cut the lead to six at 14-8. The ‘Dogs scored the next six points to stretch the lead to 12. Sophomore outside hitter
Cory McGowan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) started the outburst with a kill, while Ehorn finished with a kill. Another Ehorn kill made the score 24-10; the Bulldogs claimed the opening set on an Anderson error. Wingate hit .538 in set one, with 16 kills and only two errors.
A 5-0 run put the Bulldogs on top 15-6 in the second set. Ehorn started things with a kill, while back-to-back Potter kills finished the flurry. A pair of Murach kills pushed the lead to nine at 19-10. Kills from Ehorn and Potter put the Bulldogs on top 22-13, while another Murach kill made the tally 24-15. Murach finished the second set with her seventh kill of the frame. The Bulldogs piled up 20 kills in the second set, hitting .421.
A Gillespie kill and two Wingate errors helped Anderson tie the third set at 11. The ‘Dogs had the emphatic answer, scoring the next six points to take a 17-11 advantage. Potter and Ehorn started the run with kills, while redshirt sophomore middle blocker
Anna Hilton (Hickory, N.C.) added back-to-back kills in the spurt. Malone capped the run with an ace to put Wingate on top by six. An ace from Gillespie trimmed the lead to three at 18-15. A kill and an ace from Ehorn, followed by kills from McGowan and sophomore middle blocker
Allison Rickher (Matthews, N.C.), made the margin 22-15. Ehorn added another ace to push the lead to eight. Another Rickher kill made the score 24-17, while Potter capped the match with a kill.
Wingate hit .365 for the match, with 53 kills and 11 errors in 115 attacks. The Trojans hit .087, with 23 kills and 14 errors in 103 attacks.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday, hosting Newberry College at 5 p.m. Wingate will be looking to complete its fifth consecutive undefeated SAC regular season. Anderson travels to Catawba College Saturday at 2 p.m.
