Tigerville, S.C.----The Wingate University women’s golf team shaved 12 strokes from its day one score to finish second at the 2011 North Greenville University Fall Classic, hosted by the Crusaders at the Cherokee Valley Golf Club. Five teams participated in this year’s second annual event.
The Bulldogs shot a 320 Tuesday, following a 332 on Monday. Wingate’s 652 total was second to South Atlantic Conference foe Lincoln Memorial University (632). The Railsplitters posted 311 Tuesday and 321 Monday. LMU redshirt sophomore
Desta Coaker was the medalist at 156, earning the gold medal by one stroke.

Samantha Pugh-Gilder (Pinehurst, N.C.) led the Bulldogs, placing fifth at 159. Pugh-Gilder made a nice move Tuesday, shaving seven strokes from her first day 83. She posted a 76 in round number two.
Bulldog freshman
Lucia Careaga Herrera (Madrid, Spain) matched her veteran teammate, shooting a 76 Tuesday. Careaga Herrera finished sixth at 160 after an opening round 84. Classmate
Karli Soracco (Turner, Maine) rounded out the Wingate student-athletes in the top 10 with her eighth-place Bulldog debut. She recorded a 162 (79-83).
