Wingate, N.C.----Steve Hammond and Keeley Wood recorded the top finishes in the men’s and women’s races at the Bulldog Stampede held Saturday morning at Wingate University, as the Wingate’s men’s and women’s teams won the overall titles in the event.
 
Hammond paced the field, finishing the 8K event in 26:09. The 2010 SAC Freshman of the Year was nine seconds ahead of second-place finisher Christian Crifasi of Catawba College in achieving the individual title. Andrew Smith (Wingate), Josh Mower (Brevard) and Nathan Collier (Newberry) completed the top five in the event.
 
Wood claimed the women’s individual title, setting a 6:18 mile pace to finish the 5K in 19:32. The 2010 All-SAC performer was 20 seconds ahead of second place finisher Madison Hill of Brevard College. Brianna Stevens (Wingate), Angela Canale (Brevard) and Kaitlyn Mullis (Pfeiffer) rounded out the top five.
