Kiawah Island, S.C.----The Wingate University women’s golf team had three players shoot in the seventies on day one of the Tusculum/Kiawah Intercollegiate Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs have three players in the top 30 in the tournament, which has 18 teams and a total of 89 players. Wingate finished with a 26-over par 314 on day one.
Sophomore
Morgan Pegram (Pfafftown, N.C.) and freshman
Lucia Careaga Herrera (Madrid, Spain) both shot 77 in round one. The two are five-over for the tournament, tied for 18th overall. Freshman
Karli Soracco (Turner, Maine) is two shots behind Pegram and Herrera after an opening round 79. She is in a tie for 27th.
Sophomore
Samantha Pugh-Gilder (Pinehurst, N.C.) shot an opening round 81 on Saturday, and is tied for 43rd overall. Sophomore
Kathryn Rand (Hampstead, N.C.) also shot a nine-over par round of 81 on Saturday.
Florida Southern and Lynn are tied for the lead, both shooting 297 on day one. Barry is six shots back, followed by Tusculum and Armstrong Atlantic. Wingate and SCAD are tied for sixth. The Bulldogs are only three shots behind fourth-place Tusculum.
