Kiawah Island, S.C.----The Wingate University women’s golf team finished eighth in the 18-team Tusculum/Kiawah Intercollegiate Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs shot 633; Lynn University won the 10th annual event with a 582.

Lucia Careaga Herrera (Madrid, Spain) led the Wingate charge, finishing in a tie for 14th place with a 152. She shot a 75 Sunday to go with a 77 Saturday. Sophomore
Kathryn Rand (Hampstead, N.C.) made the most progress Sunday, shaving three strokes from her Saturday score. She carded a 78 Sunday after an 81 Saturday to place tied for 28th at 159.

Morgan Pegram (Pfafftown, N.C.) tied for 36th place at 160 (77-83), while classmate
Samantha Pugh-Gilder (Pinehurst, N.C.) tied for 47th place at 164 (81-83). Freshman
Karli Soracco (Turner, Maine) tied for 57th place at 168 (79-89).
The Lynn Fighting Knights posted an 18-hole TC/Kiawah event record 285 in the final round to win the two-day, 36-hole event by 19 strokes over runner-up and defending champion Florida Southern (601). In the medalist competition,
Kristen Sammarco of Armstrong (Ga.) posted a two-under-par 70 on Sunday to finish with 144 to tie with
Jessica Bradley of Lynn. Sammarco won top honors via a scorecard play-off, marking the third straight year the individual title was decided by a play-off.
Wingate returns to action Feb. 27-28, participating in the Columbus State (Ga.) University Cougar Collegiate Classic. The event will be held at the Country Club of Columbus.
