Wingate, N.C.----UNC Pembroke scored the final 21 points of the contest, rallying for a 49-35 NCAA Division II football victory over Wingate University Saturday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field on the Wingate campus. The UNCP Braves improve to 2-1 overall, while the host Bulldogs are 1-2 overall.
UNC Pembroke returned an interception and a fumble for first and fourth quarter touchdowns, respectively. Wingate made nine turnovers on the day. The Braves scored 28 first quarter points and 21 fourth quarter markers, while the Bulldogs tallied 14 points each in the second and third frames to take the lead into the final 15 minutes.

Chris Bowden (Forsyth, Ga.) for an 18-yard touchdown connection with 2:42 remaining in the third quarter. Redshirt senior placekicker
Matthew Sierk (Saluda, N.C.) added his fifth and final PAT to give the Bulldogs the seven-point edge.

Luke Charles (Murphy, N.C.) led his troops on a 10-play, 66-yard drive to tie the score early in the fourth quarter. Charles sealed the deal with a three-yard TD pass to junior wide receiver

Connor Haskins (Lumberton, N.C.) tied the game at 35-35 with his successful PAT.
The Bulldogs moved the ball to the UNCP 31-yard line on the ensuing possession, but could not convert. After the two teams traded three-and-outs, the Braves took the lead for good with a seven-play, 41-yard drive to pay dirt. Redshirt junior running back
Damonte Terry (Laurinburg, N.C.) scored the second of his two touchdowns on a one-yard drive with 4:51 to go. Haskins’ extra point made score 42-35 UNC Pembroke.
Wingate moved the ball into UNC Pembroke territory two plays later, but a fumble ended the drive. Braves redshirt senior defensive back
Sean Rush (Jacksonville, Fla.) picked up the loose ball and returned the Bulldog miscue 59 yards for a touchdown. Two UNCP interceptions ended two Wingate rally attempts in the late stages. Rush intercepted the final errant pass as time expired.

Andrew Nallenweg (Asheville, N.C.) scored two rushing touchdowns and caught a TD pass as well. His second rushing touchdown completed a 12-play, 73-yard drive to open the third quarter. Sierk’s PAT tied the score 28-28 with 9:49 remaining in the third stanza.
Robbie Nallenweg completed 30-of-49 passes for 449 yards and three touchdowns. He threw seven interceptions. Bowden caught eight passes for 137 yards and one score. His touchdown gives him 28 career TD receptions, a new school record. Bulldog redshirt sophomore
Bryan Caffrey (Bayside, N.Y.) also caught eight passes covering 98 yards.
For UNC Pembroke, Charles completed 22-of-34 passes for 207 yards and three scores. Both Charles and Nallenweg utilized eight receivers each. Te’vell Williams caught seven passes for 72 yards and two scores. Terry rushed nine times for 99 yards and two touchdowns. His 89-yard second quarter touchdown gave the visiting Braves a 21-7 lead with 8:32 to play in the second quarter. UNC Pembroke led 28-7 at intermission.

Josh Patch (Salisbury, N.C.) had nine tackles each for the Bulldogs. Seate had one interception, one tackle for loss and one pass break-up. Patch had two tackles for loss, 1.5 quarterback sacks and one QB hurry.

Preston Perry (Denver, N.C.) had two interceptions for 43 yards. He also forced the fumble Rush returned for a TD. Rush was one of five Braves with one interception each. Brave redshirt junior
Quentin Pate (Hope Mills, N.C.) returned a first quarter pick 42 yards for a touchdown. He had seven tackles.

Blake Hickman (Greensboro, N.C.) led all defenders with 11 total stops.
The Bulldogs open South Atlantic Conference play Saturday, visiting Brevard College for a 6 p.m. contest. UNC Pembroke continues its road swing, traveling across the state line to face Virginia-Lynchburg Saturday at 1 p.m.
